Well, I think I have to say this, as a mini rant. Sometimes I feel it would
have been better stopping with IE 5.5 SP1, because with IE 5.5 SP2 (and IE 6),
some of the pre-existing plug-ins on your system don't work anymore. (But I
*think*) I've fixed that. Which ones had to be fixed?
....and....who knows what else I'll find?
This is mentioned in one of the MS Knowledge Base articles, under the heading
of "Netscape type plug-ins don't work anymore", or something to that effect,
and that this was done by DESIGN, believe it or not! (ActiveX, or bust, I
Gee, thanks a lot, MS. So what was wrong with just retaining the previous
plug-in compatibility? (Isn't this a bit monopolistic (against Netscape)?
The other beef I had was whenever I printed web pages on my (somewhat older)
LaserJet 4L printer, the footer was NOW missing the URLS of the web pages, no
matter what site I went to. For some strange reason, with this "new and
improved" version of IE, I had to change the printer configuration (under
fonts), FROM: "Download TrueType fonts as bitmap soft fonts", TO: "Print
TrueType as graphics". I found that by my own debugging - no articles on the
MS site that I could find said anything about this.
Interestingly enough, under Print Preview, the footer with the URLs showed up
just fine - but not when it came to printing out the actual pages on the
printer! (That was a small clue for me).
But I don't understand WHY this happens with this "upgraded" version of IE
(using IE 5.5, SP2). Anybody here have any plausible explanation for this
