Pop-up's - Please please someone help me!

Post by Alan » Wed, 14 Apr 2004 17:31:09

I am at my wit's end due to the fact that when I have Windows Explorer open,
pop-ups keep appearing, from music mp3 sites and sex sites that my cursed
*** age son visited, I have tried everything I know of, even system restore
to way-back.

I now run a pop-up killer all the time, but if I don't start it, they are
all over my screen, this is absolutely infuriating.

Can someone help me please?

Regards,

Alan

Alan,

Download Ad-Aware from here:
http://www.yqcomputer.com/
Install, UPDATE and run.
You may need to reboot and run again to clean all the nasties that cannot be deleted at once (n use.

Also excellent is SpyBot Search & Destroy available here:
http://www.yqcomputer.com/
Install, UPDATE and run.
You may need to reboot and run again to clean all the nasties that cannot be deleted at once (n use.

Even if Ad-Aware and SpyBot S&D are similar, they do clean different things. You should have both of them and use REGULARLY.

You can also install reventivesoftware that will help you control these nasties:

SpywareBlaster:
http://www.yqcomputer.com/
Avoids malicious Active X installs.
Advantage: no system resources used!!!
Just download, install and UPDATE.

SpywareGuard:
http://www.yqcomputer.com/
Monitors for attempts to install malicious software.

All of them extremely useful but you must keep them UPDATED.

There are many solutions to your problem. Running a Popup
Killer (I prefer the original Popup Killer 1.43 myself) is
a good first step. If it is set correctly it will start
automatically on boot and there is no need to manually
launch the application. Don't settle for cheap imitations!

You might also want to purchase ZoneAlarm Pro from
http://www.yqcomputer.com/ which is an excellent firewall
that also includes a built in popup blocker and cookie
control. If you're on broadband you DEFINITELY need a
good firewall with or without the popup stopper.

You should also download and use SpyBot Search and Destroy
from http://www.yqcomputer.com/
After you install the program, run the updates, and then
do a system scan. It will kill all the Ad-ware and spy-
ware that are installed on your system as a result of
browsing *** sites.

Good luck!

Thank you Thomas and Zee for your help, so far I have only loaded SpyBot
Search and Destroy, it is amazing! I had no idea that there were so many
files contributing to my problems lurking on my PC, already it seems to have
had an effect, but I will get the others you mention anyway.
Thank you again,
Kind regards,
Alan

Alan,

You're welcome.

I hope you can get rid of those dreadful popups (and the rest...).

Thanks for the feedback.

Try google's toolbar. It automatically starts with IE and
automatically blocks pop-ups. You will need to turn it
off when you want to use a web-site that opens up new
windows, but it's easy to use. Go to google and search
for Toolbar. It should be the first hit.

Good luck.
