Try typing: msconfig on the Start/Run line, then click the Startup tab and
review the applications starting up there with a view to disabling those you
do not want or need. Plus, you can always right click an icon and should
have an option there to close or Exit from the running program.
System Resources can be checked by Ctrl+Alt+Del to open Task Manager and
looking there or downloading some utilities that will allow you to check
them at will (usually by adding another icon to the System Tray). Or review
