MCE 2005: screen goes black in Full-Screen mode

MCE 2005: screen goes black in Full-Screen mode

Post by Russ » Sat, 23 Oct 2004 00:05:22

I am a Microsoft OEM System Integrator, and I have been working on doing a
"test build" of a Windows Media Center Edition 2005 system. I have tried a
couple of different hardware configurations so far (I have a couple of MCE
systems with different tuner and graphics cards), but I have not had any
luck getting everything working on MCE 2005 yet.

The latest system that I've been playing with has only 1 problem..
When I start up the MCE client (window), it works fine as long as it's
"Windowed", but when I try to Maximize ("Full Screen") the client, the
screen goes black. It seems like everything is still working (I can still
hear audio playing), but you can't see anything but the mouse on the screen.

This system has the follwing hardware:
- 2.2 Ghz Pentiun 4 CPU
- ATI Radion 9600 SE graphics card
(driver version: 6.14.10.6483)
- Hauppauge WinTV PVR 250 MCE tuner card
(driver version: 1.18.21.22254)

I had the same problem. I fixed it by reconfiguring the display
settings in mce. I set mine to use a monitor/television connected
with a vga cable. This may work for you.

I had the same problem with an ATI 9800 Pro, and found
the same workaround as George. The display drivers on
Windows Update, and the latest from the ATI site
exhibited the same problem for me.

I think it's got something to do with the custom
resolution that MCE 2005 puts the display in so that it
displays better on a TV.

Had the same problem using an Asus nVidia ti4800 with the newest nVidia
driver. I finally reinstalled the driver and it started working. <shrugs
shoulders>

Have you checked the ATI site for a new driver or reinstalled it?
