Quota limit reached, but folder size is under limit

Post by Umlja » Wed, 15 Apr 2009 22:50:01

I have some users who have quotas on their home directories. They are
getting errors when saving files that they do not have any free space, and
the server is saying they've reached their quota limit. When I navigate to
the folder, right-click...Properties, the file size is way under the quota
limit. Any ideas what could be going on? I hate to keep temporarily bumping
up people's quota limits.

If this is Server 2003 (RTM) and not 2003 R2 then you'd be using Disk or
NTFS based quotas which apply to and are calculated from the volume level
not the directory or folder. Users are 'charged' for usage based upon file
ownership, not where the file is located. So, if I own the file and place it
in some other folder, the quota is still charged to me,

Also note that temporary files are also charged quota and can easily nudge
one over the limit.

2003 R2 FSRM quotas work differently.

When I right-click My Computer...Properties, it just says Microsoft Windows
Server 2003, Standard Edition. So I guess I'm not on R2 and I'll have to
look into the things you suggested. Thanks.
