dns will not start

Post by cGs » Wed, 04 May 2005 01:58:02

Hi
I migrated a server 03 DC from old hardware to new , when I try to start dns
on the new server I get message
"could not start dns service on local computer Error: The system cannot find
file specified". The folder %systemroot%\system32\dns contains the same
files as the old server. I having been searching microsft site all morning &
have not found this error message. There is no entry in the dns event log.
The site the server manages is intergrated into the AD. Any suggestions would
be appreciated

Hello PK,

Good to hear from you.

According to the message, I understand that you get the error "The system
cannot find file specified" when you try to start DNS on the new win2k3
server.

Based on my experience, we can try the following steps and check whether it
helps.

1. Click Start and select Run.

2. In the Run box, type "cmd" to open Command Prompt.

3. In the Command Prompt, use the following command:
ipconfig /registerdns

If you get the same error, please do the following steps to start DHCP
client service.

3.1 Click Start and select Run.

3.2 In the Run box, type "services.msc".

3.3 Locate the "DHCP Client" service.

3.4 Double click the service, make sure the service is started, and the
startup type is "Automatic".

Does it help to start the service?

Refer to the following article for more information about the "DHCP Client"
service.

Hope this helps. If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to get
in touch!
