Group Migration With ADMT v2

Group Migration With ADMT v2

Post by S2Jpcm » Thu, 14 Jul 2005 12:16:05

I am currently doing a migration from NT4.0 Server to Windows 2003 and need
some help.

I am using ADMT v2.0 to migrate Global Groups and Users. Everything is going
well except for one thing. I migrate the Groups first, then the users. The
SID history seems to come over OK. User rights, roaming profiles and even
password are coming over fine. However, the group members are not showing up.
In other words, the only thing showing up in Group members is Domain Users.
The migration should be matching up users into Groups.

I have done several migrations and I am following the guidlines in the
Migration Cookbook, so I am pretty sure I have thing set up correctly.

Does anyone have some input? Am I missing something?

Again, I have migrated around 60 Groups and 400 users. Everthing seems to
come accross except the listing of my users inside the individual groups.
Also, just FYI, I am not getting any error messages in the ADMT log. It is
almost as if this particular process is being skipped.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

KBird

Group Migration With ADMT v2

ello KBird,

Good to hear from you.

According to the message, I understand that the group members are not
showing up in the group list after migration. However there are no errors
in the migration log. Is this correct?

I would like to know the details about the migration of groups and users.
Generally speaking, I would like to suggest that we migrate the groups and
users separately (do not migrate the associated members when migrating
groups).

During the group migration, we suggest using the following configurations

[Group Options]

Copy group members * Not Checked
Fix membership of group * Checked

During the user migration, please use the following configurations:

[User Options]

Migrate associated user groups * Not Checked
Fix users' group memberships * Checked

If the groups have previously been migrated, choosing the above options
will update the group memberships during the user migration.

What settings do you choose in the group and user migration?

At this time, I would like to suggest that we perform a re-migration of one
global group with the following group options selected:
Copy group members
Update previously migrated objects
Fix membership of group
Do not rename accounts
Ignore conflicting accounts and don't migrate

What is the result? If the issue persists, I would like to have the
migration.log file, which is typically in the %Program Files%\Active
Directory Migration Tool folder on the machine running ADMT. Please also
take a screen shot of the group list which have no member listed. Save it
as a. jpg file and send it to XXXX@XXXXX.COM for research.

Hope this helps. If you have further concerns, please get in touch!

Best regards,

Frances He
