File server migration tool question

Post by darkmage19 » Fri, 01 Jan 2010 20:39:29

Hi, I'm about to copy a lot of shares from 3 old servers to a new 2008
one.

I'm using FSMT which seems to be a great utility. I read a couple of
thread and find out how to use it.

I opened the program, creare a new project and added a server.
The strange starts now: in the source server I've about 100 shares but
FSMT shows me only few of them.

What's wrong? I tried each different source server, but the issue is
the same. It seems that FSMT can deal only with "root shares" but not
with nested ones. It's true? But, if it's so, how could I migrate a
single nested share?

Thank you in advance and happy new year to all.

I concur. I've been using robocopy to do this since the year 0. It's
great - will copy security as well. robocopy /??? will give you all
the parameters.

Normally I use -

robocopy <source>\ <destination>\ /e /r:1 /w:1

you can also use /mir if you want to mirror/sync deletions on the
source w/those on the destination.

"Lanwench [MVP - Exchange]"

Robocopy is an excellent tool. There's also a GUI version. However, I'm sure
you were already aware of it, Lanwench, and I usually opt to use the CLI
version. I just thought to provide an alternative if the poster is not
comfortable with the CLI version.

btw- OT - I've never asked a woman how old she is, however if you've used it
since day 0, I can now calculate your age based on the Earth's estimated
age, ... or is it the Universe's age since day 0? :-)

Just kidding! :-) I hope you had a nice New Years!
