message pending submission queue

Post by Terry » Thu, 19 Aug 2004 02:10:08

Hello

I have SBS 2003 Premium using 2 nics & ISA. We are using the POP3 connector
and have Trend CSM. I am have a problem with email getting stuck in the
Messages pending submission queue and only a reboot will get the mail
flowing again.

I tried to restart the SMTP virtual Server but it just hangs. I saw a
thread some time ago about the same problem on what looked like the same
configuration but never saw if it was resolved.

I though perhaps it was a Trend problem so I went through the reconditions
in KB822158 & KB823166 but the problem can back again today and I don't see
anything in the logs that give me a hint.

Any help would be appreciated

Can't say it was the problem, but I have the same setup,
except regular SBS.

I was having problems with BSOD and the same Message
stuck in the Que you mention. In one week 3 BSODs and 5
times messages stuck. Although mine would not clear with
just a reboot, I had to Turn off Trend exchange scanner,
reboot, then restart the scanner.

I changed Trend on the server to NOT scan the Exchange
folder, Knock on wood, tomorrow is 3 weeks without an
issue.

Right now I have no messages in the queue to check. But I remember
specifically doing the check per a MS KB to see if our Exchange Server is an
Open Relay and it ended up not being one. The question is does a default
install of SBS 2003 Premium make it an Open Relay or not.

thanks!

Hi all, me again! Too many SBS issues this morning.. sorry.

Every couple of days our server seems to queue up a bunch of messages for
submission. I have to go in and restart the SMTP & Exchange Routing Service
for them to go through... any ideas what is causing this? This morning we
had 44 messages sitting in the queue for the Default SMTP Virtual Server..

TIA!

Param,

I would look at the addresses of the senders. This can often be casued by
spammers trying to relay through your server. See if the addresses near the
top of the list confirm this thought.

You can create a batch file that starts and stops SMTPSVC and this will
resolve the issue temporarily. For example:

FILE NAME:
smtpreset.bat

CONTENTS:
cls
net stop smtpsvc
net start smtpsvc
pause

Jeff, we do not allow external users to relay through our server. They must
either be on the LAN or they must authenticate. So where could the problem
be?

Param,

Did you check?

Can you confirm that you have emails in your queue sent from people other
than your domain users. If they have sent from the administrators account
please verifiy that they are authentic.

Got Trend installed? There's a patch if so.

Exclude the C:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\Mailroot\vsi 1 folder from being
scanned by your anti virus program.

es, I have Trend installed. That maybe it? Where is the patch? Is the patch
installed automatically as part of Trend's Auto-Update?
