SBS 2003 STD to SBS 2003 Prem

Post by Q2hyaXN0aW » Fri, 04 Mar 2005 05:43:04

I've read most of the posts about Upgrade SBS 2003 STD to SBS 2003 Prem

We have not yet purchased the Premium version.
I was wondering if there is a direct link to documentation about Upgrading
SBS 2003 Standard to Premium?

CD 5 for SBS 2003 Premium has the ISA and SQL, is it possible to just
install the SQL over to the SBS Standard?

My scenerio is, we have SBS 2003 Standard installed. Basically we need SQL
that Premium provides. Is there another way to get SQL server on SBS 2003
Standard? or what other choices do I have?

If this is unclear, please let me know and I will try to provide as much
accurate information.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Christian

You can buy the SBS Premium Upgrade which will provide you with the
Premium Software ( ISA, SQL Server and Frontpage ).

Installing the premium features is covered in the Install docs on the
CD, and is just a matter of Installing onto the SBS 2003 Standard you
are already running, and re- running the CEICW and RRAS wizards.

(p.s. You may have to install a second NIC if you haven't done so
already )

Hello Christian,

Thanks for your posting.

I think the best way for you to install SQL server is to purchase SBS 2003
Premium Edition pack.

Actually, you cannot install SQL directly from the SBS 2003 Premium CD#5
over to the SBS standard since the product keys for both editions do not
match. You have to upgrade to Premium Edition first. To do so, you should
insert the SBS 2003 Premium CD#1 in the CD-ROM, launch the SBS 2003 Premium
Setup and then upgrade your server from Standard to Premium.

The current price to upgrade from Standard Edition to Premium Edition is
$900, see the link below

http://www.yqcomputer.com/

Of course, you can install a retail version SQL Server on your SBS 2003 STD
server, but you have to buy additional Client Access Licenses (CAL) for it
as SBS 2003 CALs do not cover it. If you go this way, you have to pay more.
So my suggestion is buy the Premium Edition, it is easy to install and will
save your time.

Hope this information will help. I welcome any further questions you might
have.

Hi Henry

I just got the UPGRADE package containing 2 CDs
You mentioned re-running CEICW and RRAS wizards, I'm not sure
what they are and where I can run this. I have read the
PREMIUMINSTALLSTEPS.HTM and it looks as if I'm doing a new install using the
SQL wizard and ISA wizard.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks

Yes that are new Installs of the SQL and ISA Servers. However, You'll
want to re-run the To-Do List Configure Email and Internet Connection
Wizard and Routing and Remote Access Wizards so that they can configure
the ISA for access via the correct Ports ( ie lock down the system and
punch -only- the requires holes in the firewall )
