Upgrading 2000 Small Business to 2003 Small Business Server

Is it possible to install a fresh copy of 2003 Small
Business server and import over the edb files from
Exchange????

We get this error when trying to run the upgrade on our
2000 small business:

You do not have sufficient permissions in the domain. We
removing the exchange domain servers group from the
builtin administrators group to no avail. What do you
think our best solution would be to upgrade a server that
has inheriant issues.

Thanks

Rebecca

Upgrading 2000 Small Business to 2003 Small Business Server

Hi Rebecca

Every situation is different, if I had a server with inherent problems I
would probably format and install cleanly. If you Exchange is running you
can Exmerge the data from SBS 2000 Exchange to 2003 Exchange.

The Exmerge utility for 2000 is on the SBS 2000 CD's the 2003 version is on
the www.microsoft.com/exchange web site.

This scenario is documented in the upgrade white papers.

Upgrading 2000 Small Business to 2003 Small Business Server

Just want to clarify this licensing point. We own SBS 2000 5-user.
We want to purchase the SBS 2003 5-user upgrade and install it to a
new server, then migrate only the mailboxes, using Exmerge, but no
other settings from the SBS 2000 server. Then we will retire the SBS
2000 server.

Can we do this with the SBS 2003 upgrade? Or, do we have to purchase
the full SBS 2003 product?

Thanks,
Brent
