Upgrading SBS 2003 Server from SP2 RC >> SP2 Final

Post by dGh1bmRlcm » Thu, 15 Mar 2007 22:53:44

I have a Windows 2003 SBS Server with service pack 2 release candidate
installed. I would like to upgrade the server to the final release of
service pack 2 but wasn't sure if this was possible. Can I preform that
upgrade or will I have remove the release candidate SP2 first somehow? Any
tips or advice would be great.

Thanks!

The SP2 docs say that this is not supported. MS wants you to remove the
pre-release SP2. Whether it actually matters or not is something you can
tell us if you decide install the SP2 final on top of the SP2 pre-release.
But someone here has mentioned a possible gotcha with SP2 and SBS/RC, so you
should probably be C/C/C (cautious/conservative/careful).

Is it fairly easy and trouble free to remove a pre-release SP or are there a
lot of known issues? I'm a bit scared to remove the SP and cause the server
to go back down.

I'd have found it scarier to install an RC service pack on a production
server in the first place.

Ditto.

If you are scared of removing it...you shouldn't have put it on there in
the first place.
