Excessive 7062 Errors

've been reciving a bucket load of 7062 errors on our office's server (SBS
2003) The errors don't seem to be really effecting things aside from
workstation logon times, which currently are around three minutes. The
errors are about every few seconds on the server.

Here's a summary of the 7062 errors

The DNS server encountered a packet addressed to itself on IP address
192.168.16.2. The packet is for the DNS name
"_kerberos._tcp.Default-First-Site-Name._sites.dc._msdcs.JOHNSONAIR.LOCAL.".
The packet will be discarded. This condition usually indicates a
configuration error.

Excessive 7062 Errors

i Garrett,

Your basic problem is the nic configuration. You have them both in the same
IP range which is not the proper way.
The internal nic should connect to a hub/switch where the clients are
connecting to too, the external nic should connect to the router.

he external NIC is connected to a outside DSL line with no way to talk back
to the clients. I went ahead and changed it thought and restarted the server
with no luck. I've looked around some more and I was missing the _ldap and a
few other entries that should be in the DNS fowarders for the domain, but so
far i haven't had any success with getting the active directory to pick up.
Or adding any services to _ldap

Thank you for your help

you should remove the default gateway from the internal NIC and put the
router's IP as defaullt gateway on the external.

Thanks,

I changed it over so that the external nic has the default gateway of the
router (192.168.16.1). The internal card now has no gateway.

In the DNS management console the grayed out folders (ie _ldap, _msdcs) that
should be managed by the active directory have no entries inside of them.

Hi Garrett,

That still doesn't sound right to me. You were also missing DNS and WINS on
the servers internal nic. Please post a fresh ipconfig/all.

Excessive 7062 Errors

Hi Garret,

Welcome to the SBS public newsgroup.

Accord to what you described, I understand that you encountered error 7062.

Based on my research, it might be caused by the misconfiguration of DNS
server. And I help you check the DNS setting on your SBS 2003, I found some
error on your external NIC of SBS, it should be the IP assigned by your ISP
and the DNS setting on that card should be a DNS server assigned by your
ISP. I suggest you rerun the CEICW to configure the DNS setting and
internet access, for more detailed information please refer to the
following KB article:

825763 How to configure Internet access in Windows Small Business Server
2003
http://www.yqcomputer.com/

If the problem still existed, please run the ipconfig/all at the server
side and client side and paste the results to the public newsgroup.

More information related with Error 7062, please refer to the following KB
article:

235689 How to troubleshoot 7062 errors logged in DNS event log
http://www.yqcomputer.com/

Hope the above information helpful, if you have any further issue, please
let me know. I am standing by to help you.
