What the Hell is [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Windows CE Tools] ??

Post by Fabrice MO » Wed, 01 Apr 2009 18:10:04

Hi all,
I am finishing my platform design based on iMX27 platform developed by
Freescale.
I found in the registry the following key:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Windows CE Tools]
"Platform"="{9cf6e89e-7bac-4e6f-9a4e-a83345d4af72}"

Does someone know the purpose of this key?
Do I have to modify it? And how do it?

Best regards

Fabrice

The key is in your project.reg file; the 'master' project.reg file (in
%_WINCEROOT%\PUBLIC\CEBASE\OAK\FILES) does not have that key at all and from
what I see the value is different for each project: I suspect that the GUID
is generated for its purposes by Platform Builder when you create a project
(you can find the same value on your PC under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\VisualStudio\8.0\Platforms). I've
never taken care of it.

No need to swear, especially in your subject line.

That key is used by the application development tools to verify that the SDK
matches the device. You do not need to change it.

Hi Bruce,
Many thanks for your reply/explanation.
I apologies if I hurt you, I'm very sorry about that.
It is always frustrating to see such thinks I don't understand why they
are set and if they are really needed or used.

Best regards

Fabrice
