I need help setting up a home network between 2 computers.
My host computer is a Dell Dimension 8400 running Windows XP Home Edition.
The modems on the host computer are: 1.) On Com 1 - Communications cable
between two computers. 2.) On Com 3 - INTEL 537EP V9x DF PCI Modem. The
network adapter is: Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit Controller
My guest computer is a generic Pentium III 866 running Windows XP Home
Edition. The modems on the guest computer are: 1.) On Com 1 -
Communication cable between two computers. 2.) On Com 3 - SupraMax 56i.
The network adapter is: 3 Com EtherLink III ISAPNP Ethernet adapter
My internet connection is on my host computer.
From Microsoft support I printed the instructions for "How to Configure a
Direct Cable Connection with Windows XP Home Edition. I have followed the
instructions to a "T". I can access the internet on my guest computer
through the host computer. When I try to connect to the host computer, I
get an error message which says "Error 777. The connection attempt failed
because the modem (or other connecting device) on the remote computer is out
of order." When I check the Communication cable, the SupraMax 56i, and the
Ethernet adapter on the guest computer all indicate they are working
properly. I have checked the internet for a solution to error 777. The
only information I get is to check with the system administrator. On host
computer the guest account is turned on. Please help!!!
