sound card refusing to work

About a week ago, I started having this problem with
there being no sound. I checked in the audio and device
drivers and it said there was no audio device. I
uninstalled and reinstalled the divers, but that didn't
work. I got another sound and installed it, but it had
the exact same problem. I downloaded updates and
installed them, but that didn't help. I am really
desperate. I need help.
