Windows XP Home Edition - No User Icons in Windows XP Login window

Hi,

This morning I started up my PC (windows XP Home with all patches,
including the patches that came out yesterday) and I was greeted with
the Login screen. The Login window does not normally appear. The
problem is this: no icons appear so I can't access my machine.

Note: I was playing with Windows UI Tweak power tool yesterday that MS
provides...I wonder if I changed the wrong option.

Thinking that accessing the machine via Safe Mode would avoid the login
screen, I tried to go into Windows safe mode, but I am having problems
with that approach. Not sure if this would get me around the windows
login screen...

Anyway, I can get the windows screen to appear where you can select
either safe mode, or the normal windows start. The highlighted option
is the normal windows start mode. The arrows on my keyboard are not
giving me the ability to switch choices....so the machine loads normal
windows and the login window appears.

I tried the keyboard on another machine and it works fine. The same
keyboard arrowkeys work fine in the bios window...

Thanks for your help!

You can log into the built in Administrator account in Safe
Mode, and the account will appear on the welcome screen.
Download and install Tweak UI,its Logon page allows you to control which
accounts will show on Welcome, and Logon - Autologon is an alternative
way to set up that.

Hi,

The problem is that I can't get into safe mode. I can get to the
screen where you have the options of selecting Safe Mode, but the arrow
keys on the keyboard don't work on that screen for some reason.

They work prior to that screen, e.g., system bios. and the keyboard
works on other computers just fine.

any reason the keyboard does not work on the screen? (it appears that
there is no power to keyboard, e.g., the Num Lock or cap locks do not
light up if pressed)

thoughts?

again, thanks for your help.

Seems to be a specific keyboard driver problem with this particular
machine.Could you kindly check it with another keyboard?
