Can XP Pro be loaded over top of XP Home or no?

Going to get XP Pro soon and was wondering if I need to go
ahead and migrate to XP Pro with XP Home still installed
or will I need to get off my lazy *** and remove XP Home
then start fresh? Sure I could always use a second drive
to load XP Pro on or even partition the drive and run a
dual boot but that's not what I'm after here.

Hi

A retail version of XP Pro will install over XP Home. You might like to
backup all your valuable data files beforehand.

Yes, one can upgrade (migrate???) from XP Home to XP Pro.

1. Purchase a conventional "Retail Upgrade Version" of Windows XP Professional.
2. Uninstall your antivirus program.
3. Perform a backup of your important documents and files to a CD.
4. Disconnect all hardware peripheral devices, except the monitor, keyboard and mouse.
5. While running Windows XP Home, insert the Windows XP Pro CD in the drive and select
the default "Upgrade" setup option. [Do not select "New Installation"]
6. Visit the Windows Update site to download all the critical updates.

Greetings --

WinXP is designed to install and upgrade the existing operating
system while simultaneously preserving your applications and data, and
translating as many personalized settings as possible. The process is
designed to be, and normally is, quite painless. That said, things
can go wrong, in a small number of cases. If your data is at all
important to you, back it up before proceeding.

The upgrade from WinXP Home to WinXP Pro, in particular, should go
smoothly, as both operating systems use the same kernel.

If you are going to migrate first make sure that there is an extra
facility in Pro that you actually *need*, don't do it just because it
sounds macho.. Apart from those extras the systems are identical.

Then get the Upgrade Pro CD and run it from the current system. Take
Install, continue with upgrade. Apart from a few settings put back to
default you would not know anything had happened. But you *will* need
to run updates again. Only do a clean install if you have real reason
to clear out all installed software, though you should always back up
important data, just in case
