Icons won't stay as arranged on grid

Post by U3VzaWV » Sat, 10 Feb 2007 02:07:01

I am trying to set my icons on the desktop. I have aligned to Grid and show
desktop icons checked. I have tried every setting. I have also tried hitting
refresh after setting them, nothing I was told to do previously has worked.

Whenever I restart my computer the icons seem like they are arranged
properly for about 2 seconds and then they all align to the left. This is
very time consuming since I have to reset the icons every time I reboot.

Do you happen to have a program called Anti-Peeper Key?

<quote>
You press 2 keys and it will switch you to a completely different desktop. I
had no idea that this might create a problem, but evidently, when you are
running this program (even if it is not active, but loaded and ready to use
when you push the 2 keys to switch desktops) the "align to grid" setting on
the alternate desktop must be unchecked also. I unchecked "align to grid and
when I rebooted, icons popped right into the spaces they were supposed to.

I am having the same problem. It just started a couple of days ago.
It happens anytime my desktop refreshes or gets rebooted.
Auto-arrange is not on. And I do not see a setting for web lock on
the menu. For some reason it also makes my quick launch menus
dissappear.

Icons won't stay as arranged on grid

I was having the same problem on my qptiplex with XP Pro that I just got. It
drove me crazy, and it did it with both IE 6 and IE 7. Then about a week ago
I ran the Vista Upgrade adviser program and I had to download Net Passport
and something called MSXML.mis to download the advisor. Since then I have
had no more problem with the Icons changing. I don't know if that caused it
or what.

The only other thing that I have started doing latley is wait for a few
seconds after I use the PC, then hit start, turn off computer, then wait 5-10
seconds before I shut down (normally it's start, turn off computer and turn
off in one quick movement). Maybe letting it set for s few seconds is giving
it time make up it's mind to do what ever it has to do. (not that these
things have a mind of their own)
