My Mcafee Antivirus software informed me that I had a
backdoor Trojan .
Then according to the instructions how to remove, which I followed.
1.Turn off System Restore, Go to CMD prompt, type msconfig, go to
boot.ini, change
boot to boot in Safe Mode, restart computer. This is where I ran into
a
problem. When I rebooted in safe mode, I usually get a CNTRL, ALT, DLT
screen where I need to enter username and password. I entered mine and
I get
an error, I can't get in now. Also tried changing username to
"administrator" leaving password blank. Still can't get in. Also can't
boot
in normal mode. Attempted to by hitting F8 on start up. Will not start
in
Noraml mode. Will not start in last know good config, etc. Can't get
out of
Safe Mode. Need help Please.
Also I dont have the xp recovery CD to recover the system.I tried with
the option for last good configuration,system restore mode etc.nothing
came except a four corner safe mode putting me so badly.
pls pls help me..

at this time you will need
to borrow a genuine windows
installation cd so that you
can access the disk
prompt and run some
commands.

Hi,

I need help! I installed Avast antivirus on my computer and it was
giving me problems so i tried to un-install and so tried the MSCONFIG
command in start/run. I checked the safe mode boot option in BOOT.INI
and now my computer cannot start. it is always sending me back to the
option where i have to choose to either run in safe or normal mode or
safe mode with networking but all do not seem to work.

Can anyone help me?

In Safe mode select Start, Run, type "msconfig" and click on OK. Check
the box before Normal Startup and click om Apply and OK. Exit and
restart your computer.

My "safe mode" will not allow me to access start>run>msconfig.

I have a trojan or something so i went into safe mode through msconfig.
It restarted into safe mode, but now I cannot access any programs.

I tried the F8 thing and chose all sorts of the options (normally, last
known, all 3 safe modes) but it always goes to the same black screen
with "safe mode" written in all four corners.

Any body have any suggestions?

Press Ctrl/Alt-Delete in Safe Mode. If the Task Manager opens, click
File, New Task, type Explorer and press Enter. Does that give you a
Desktop?
