.ini files location

.ini files location

Post by Dave » Sat, 05 Jun 2004 04:12:03

I hope someone can help with this problem : We're using an application under
XP that creates an ini file to record user preferences for subsequent use.
Due to security restrictions, regular users do not have write access to
c:\windows, and so the application fails to create the ini file and have to
re-set their preferences every time they run the application. This applies
to 30+ users in my organisation, at least once daily.

Is there a way to change the default location for .ini files, to another
directory where users have read-write access?

Thanks,

Dave

2. alternative to .ini file to store file locations in Windows Servic

You can create and a App.Config file in a Windows Service project but as I
have not actually tried wirking with it, I cannot be sure that it actually
works.

The App.Config file is structured like:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
<configuration>
<appSettings>
<add key="FilePath" value="C:\Path\" />
</appSettings>
</configuration>

And is accessed as follows:
Configuration.ConfigurationSettings.AppSettings("FilePath")
