You can just use System Restore to get it back (click Start, then Help & Support, then "Undo
changes to my computer using System Restore"). To answer your question, that uninstall
procedure does not work Windows Messenger 5, and it is considered an upgrade (although the
features you probably want have moved to MSN Messenger 6).
