Hi there, I've just got a sony wireless laptop, it has winxp home on
it, upstairs I have a machine running xp pro.
I've set up a home network, and have secured that on my netgear router
(to some degree i've basically put a key on it so you can't get in,
unless you know the key)
Both computers are running zone alarm, this is probably irrelevant as
closing down both copies on both machines doesn't fix my problem.
Basically, if I share out my C drive on my pc, I can connect to it from
my laptop, and view lots of files. However, for example I have a
personal (non windows system related) folder with some graphics in it,
that I can't access from my laptop. I can see the folder there, I click
into it, and can't see any files at all, it looks like its empty. This
is the case with files and folders in various places, some I can access
all the time, others I cannot. It all seems quite random.
I check on the computer I'm trying to access, and the files and folders
are clearly there on the hard disk and should be shared out. If I share
out particular folders, I can see the files. But I have so much data I
want to access from my laptop that sharing folders like that is crazy.
Now here's the really weird thing. Say I try to access a so called
empty folder on my pc, from my wireless laptop - nothing shows... If I
then go on to my PC, go into this folder where I can visibly see the
folder content, and create some text documents, a couple of folders or
whatever, my laptop starts to show me some of the contents of this
folder, not neccesarily the files i've just created, it basically says
ok, I'll show you some but not all. If I delete the files I've created,
it shows me nothing again. ??
I'm confused, it looks like somethings messed up.
Any ideas? I want to avoid upgrading xp home on my laptop to pro if I
can avoid it.
