Wireless Networking - Ad hoc connection speed

Hi there,

We have an ad-hoc wireless network setup using 802.11g PCM
cards in a number of laptop computers. The network
operates fine, but when any of the users views the status
of their wireless connection, the connection speed is
reported as 11.0Mbs. The signal strength is "Excellent".
When using the network in Infrastructure mode in another
location (with a wireless access point) the connection
speed is reported as 54.0Mbps.

Does anyone know why this would be?
