cmdnut.exe, kbmain.exe, pcexp.exe problems at shutdown

Post by Tom » Fri, 17 Sep 2004 04:17:33

Over the past week or so I've been receiving an error box
when I try to shutdown which states that 1 of these:
" ######.exe - DLL Initialization failed
Application failed to initialize because window
station is shutting down "

Any help would be appreciated!
thanks

Have you searched the hard drive for any of these to try and determine what
program or programs they are associated with? They are not XP files.

Search for the files and, if found, right click the file in the search
window and select Properties/Version Tab to see the information. Post back
the information that you find.

In the meantime, perform a full virus scan with updated definitions for your
anti-virus program.

Coincidentally I just did update an antivirus program
(free home version of Avast!) and there were some viruses
found. All but 1 was deleted before obtaining these
search results. 1 still remains (Win32:Bitzen[Trj]) which
I'm still working on.

Can these files simply be deleted then (since they're not
XP)?

Thank You Ronnie!

If these files only exist in the Prefetch folder, go ahead and delete them.
These are not the actual files, but are simply references to them in the
form of ".pf" (Prefetch) files. It's very likely that your anti-virus has
already deleted the actual files.

KBMAIN and CMDNUT seem to be gone for good. Like you
said the antivirus apparently took care of them. The
PCEXP keeps reappearing. I even find a registry key
entry refering to it, which I keep deleting but it always
returns. I'm guessing this is due to either the
WIN32:BITZEN detected in IEengine.exe which I cannot
repair even in Safe Mode or the VBS:MALWARE found in
C:\doc & settings\owner\app
data\sun\java\deployment\cache\javapi\v1.0
\file\BLACBOX.CLASS-56435B3B-58DEF12.CLASS which I can't
repair either.

So, 2 more questions for you Ronnie:
1) how to repair or get a new IEengine.exe file (BITZEN)
2) can I delete this BLACKBOX.CLASS-5643... file (MALWARE)

Really appreciate it Ronnie!

Tom

The IEengine.exe is not a Windows file. I would recommend deleting it and
the Blackbox.class file as well.

I cannot find any info on the Pcexp file? It may be a spyware type
application. I would recommend going to the following website:

http://www.yqcomputer.com/

Click Register to join the forums (free) and then go to the
"Parasites - Adware, Spyware & Other Scumware" forum and post a detailed
explanation of your problem
for expert advice and guidance on how to clean your system.

If anyone knows what this file is, it will be the experts there.

Thanks again Ronnie. Really appreciate it. Searches
come up empty but I see that #@%$ pcexp.exe running in
Task Mgr. Try to "end process" but I can't tell if it
does nothing or a new one just starts executing again so
quickly that it appears to be the same one.

Anyways, many thanks
