No, this is not normal behavior. Although it's soemthing you
might see if you have two versions of Word installed on the
same boot sector and run them intermixed.
But if this computer has (and had) no other version of
Office installed then there's a configuration problem. First
thing I'd try would be Help/Detect and Repair. Keep your
Office installation CD handy, as this process often requires
you insert the CD so that damaged files can be replaced.
