I can't get the settings to stick. This is with Word 2007.

Hi Nocturnal,

Modify (edit) the style, make sure that "Add to Quick Style list" is
checked, and click on "New documents based on this template".
The style is saved in the template, and be shown in the Quick Style list for
all new documents based on that template.

If you want to modify lots of built-in and custom styles, you can also
click on the home ribbon, Change styles > Style set > Save as Quick style
set.
That'll save your customized and added Quick styles in a new template in the
"QuickStyles" folder, and the whole set will be available in all documents
(based on any template).
But all the styles must be in the Quick Styles set, so I'd still prefer a
custom template in most cases.

Regards,
Klaus

From the FAQ:

28. I can't save my customizations - AutoText, menus, etc.
Can't save normal.dot...
If you have Adobe Acrobat 7 installed see the last section of
http://www.yqcomputer.com/
Otherwise, hold down the Shift key when selecting the File
menu and select Save All.

Hope this helps,

It's possible that the Acrobat issue is not relevant to Word 2007.

I do exactly as you describe and it NEVER saves. Could it be due to having
Adobe Acrobat installed?

Try updating your Acrobat. If that doesn't work, try the other solutions on
Graham's page.
