removing top items in font menu

removing top items in font menu

Post by Dana » Sat, 25 Oct 2003 04:50:02

How can I remove fonts from the top section of the drop
down font menu on the toolbar in Word?

I would like the top section to only include the fonts I
use a lot but if I use a font only once it adds it to the
top section.

Thanks,
Dana

Hi Dana,

I know of no way to control what's displayed in the top part
of the fonts drop down. I think it's controlled by a Registry
key (the DATA key?), so you could "empty" it by deleting that
key. Word would regenerate it with its installation defaults
(which means there are other settings you'd lose).

It looks like applying a font using a macro (VBA) isn't added
to the list. If you find the problem truly annoying, you
could conceivably set up a macro (or a few macros) for
applying the "single instance" fonts. Roughly

Sub FontAntiqueOlive()
Selection.Font.Name = "Antique Olive"
End Sub

Or (even better from a stricly Word sense) create character
styles for the fonts and use these instead of direct
formatting.
