Toolbar to Add-ins tab

Toolbar to Add-ins tab

Post by _-Andy- » Wed, 27 Jun 2007 17:25:57

I had a template in word 2003 with a toolbar
I opened the template in word 2007 and the toolbar is still there only
in the add-ins tab.
So far so good.
I change the template and the toolbar and it is still visible in the
add-ins tab.
Now i close the template and make a new document using the template.
The whole template does it's thing but the add-ins tab displays for a
brief moment and then disappears :s
Now i can't see the toolbar (add-ins tab)
The template is written in vba code but the toolbar isn't build up in
vba only the macro's are.
Anyone got any idea's?

Here goes - a Template with Macros in Word 2007 is called a xxxx.dotm (a
macro enabled -template). For your purposes it is not necessarily a global
start-up add-in template with macros to be used whenever Word is open, it is
a template to create a fresh document from with preset margins etc and its
own toolbar when you do file new xxxx.dotm. So the toolbar and macros are
only applicable and visible to documents created from that macro enabled
template in Word 2007.

Try saving your Word template with macros as xxxx.dotm (macro enabled
template in 2007) and putting it in User or Server Templates so it is
available when you do File New xxxx.dotm. Make sure you have the template in
a rusted location

Hope that makes sense. It sounds like what you want to achieve. You could
also customise the QAT and Ribbon for the xxxxx.dotm template so it only
shows customisations you want available for that template.

A good book to read is Inside Out Advanced Office Documents 2007 by Krieger
Stephanie if you want some basic insight into 2007 features and examples it
comes with an ebook pdf and a few examples to give you an idea - it is on
Amazon.com. It gives intros to the various types of templates, customising
basics. I am sure Herb Tyson's book Office 2007 Bible is great too - I've
not see that or any excerpts from it so I can only comment on first book
suggestion.

Hope this helps a little.

Hey thanks for the reply
but i can't save it to .dotm because then i can't open it with word
2003
it should be able to open with every kind of office
and the macro's are enabled because when the template opens then the
first macro already gets fired up (Document_New)
but the toolbar isn't coded in vba so i was just about to code it in
vba when i read this
mm when i make a new file for example Document3 with my own template
the References go to a 2AAE9856.dot :s
i don't think this can be right :s
maybe this is the problem that you suggest?
Can it only be placed in a specific place?

ord 2003 and 2007 have separate Normal, Normal.dot and Normal.dotm - I am
not talking about Normal.dot or Normal.dotm (2007). The template you create
for new documents is nothing to do with Normal.dotm. Templates .dot open
just fine in 2003 and 2007 if set up properly.

If you don't know what mapping is then see your IT department.
