I think you have misread Help. Global templates (aside from Normal.dot) do
not provide styles. See

ll of this is probably unnecessary. Unless you have "Automatically update
document styles" checked in Tools | Templates and Add-ins, the umbilical
cord between a document and its template is severed at its creation as far
as styles are concerned. The styles defined in the template at the moment of
document creation are also stored in the document. You can change the styles
in the document without affecting the template (unless you check the "Add to
template" box in the Modify Style dialog, and changes in the template won't
affect the document. A document should not go looking for its template under
these conditions, so you shouldn't (AIUI) be getting these delays on the
LAN. OTOH, users who do have the document template available will have
access to the toolbars, etc. Or you can put the toolbars in a global
template and let them get styles from the document template.
