Word changes entire document when I change font

Click "Format", "Styles and Formatting", select the desired Style being used
(probably "Normal), click the dropdown arrow and select "Modify", uncheck
the "Automatically update" checkbox. What is happening is when you make a
change to a Style it is automatically changing every use of the Style in
your document. Since Word is Style-driven, it is obviously driving you
crazy! HA!

section of text and try to change the font (or even just the size), Word
stubbornly changees the entire document rather than just the selection I
have highlighted. It's extremely annoying - does anyone know of the correct
option to tick (or untick) to stop this happening?

Thanks Bill, that's sorted the problem

It's been annoying me for days and I finally had to ask someone before I threw my machine out of the window in disgust. The Help menus aren't very helpfull if you don't ask the correct questions

Check out the following site any time the HELP is not helpful:

By the way are you using Clippie to ask for help? If so, you might want to
turn him off by clicking the "Options" button and unchecking the desired
check box. Then when you press F1 or click the HELP menu, click the "Index"
TAB and type in your word you are looking for. I typed "Style" and one of
the options was "Automatically update a paragraph style". Plus you still
have the option to type in a question if you want. Seems to be much more
user friendly because you can actually stumble across a bunch of things
looking for stuff. Just my humble opinion!

Have fun!
