Press Ctrl+A to select all text. Go to Tools > Language > Set Language
and make sure the "Do not check spelling or grammar" box is completely
clear (no check mark and no green square).

Does he also need to reset?

No. When I tried this procedure, I could immediately rerun the spell
check, and the previously unchecked text was checked. Of course, a
reset wouldn't hurt, but you'd lose any "Ignore" items from the
previous check.

Exactly. I felt the OP may have 'ignored' in error. Resetting's a great way
of rechecking the whole thing from scratch.

Mind if I might jump in here.

I have the same problem, however, the Ctrl A/Tools > Language > Set Language

Maybe I should ask what 'reset' means.

n Word 2000 it's Tools | Options | Recheck document. This removes all the
previous check 'ignores' that get stored with the text file. The navigation
may be different in other versions of Word. (BTW, if the button says 'Check'
rather then 'Recheck' it means that it hasn't been checked yet.)

errific - I've been chasing that one for a long time - driving me nuts.
Really appreciate the tip. Looks like I have Office (Word) 2003, but it's
exactly as you said it would be.

Thanks again - really appreciated.

"Do not check spelling or grammar"

Post by Z2FpbGNue » Fri, 16 Mar 2007 07:01:35

This has been a continual problem for me, and I have tried all the
suggestions I've read here and elsewhere. I've reset using the
options>recheck button, unchecked all the possiblities of not checking words
in all caps, with numbers, etc. Yet no matter how many times I select
everything in my document, go to Language and set to English, uncheck "do not
check spelling & grammar", this setting just doesn't "take". If I immediately
go back to Language, English is outlined but not solidly highlighted, and "do
not check spelling & grammar" is checked and grayed.

This happens with certain docts where I've re-used lots of sections of text,
they've been copied into Quark and taken back out again, and have lots of
foreign words & names. BUT I've never told it to use another language or
dictionary, what I prefer to do is check the spelling of those names myself
and add them to my custom dictionary. Then as the doct is edited, I don't
have to keep But it bothers me that sometimes it will say "text marked with
do not check.. was skipped" then maybe not say that the next time, but maybe
start saying that again later. I always wonder what it might be missing. ANY
other ideas here, folks??

Thanks very much
