Have word 5 upgraded to word 97. It works when I type text..letters,,, but
will not Spell Check when I send e-mails with text.

I get message "The spell check on this document was halted. Do you want to
send anyway."

Checcking "Options" shows that Spelling has nothing "grayed" out so I can't
figure out why the message comes up, or how to solve problem.

Would appreciate any guidence as to how I can get words Spell checker to
work in Outlook Express

Sorry, haven't got an answer to your Q: - but have another spelling
question so I thought I'd piggy back on your thread.

Whenever I type HDA in my document, Word corrects it to HAD. Under
Tools | Options | Spelling & Grammar I have cleared the checkbox for
"Check Spelling as you type". I have also added HDA to my CUSTOM.DIC.
Nevertheless, Word persists to correct HDA to HAD. Any help
appreciated. DEM.

You're getting an AutoCorrect. Go to Tools/Autocorrect. remove line that
maps "hda" to "had."
