NNTP Configuring Public Newsgroup feeds?

NNTP Configuring Public Newsgroup feeds?

Post by Mike » Mon, 19 Jan 2004 11:02:08

I would like to configure Exchange 2003 to allow my users access to
Microsoft's public newsgroups.

I've created an NNTP Peer Pull Feed, via Exchange, to pull
microsoft.public.windows.server.* newsgroups from msnews.microsoft.com.
After a short while, exchange NNTP did contact msnews.microsoft.com, and
created Newsgroups for each of the newsgroups in that heirarchy. I also now
have public folders for that heirarchy. My logs show that it successfully
connected.

The problem is, I'm not getting any messages in those newsgroups.

After many hours, with no messages transferred, I removed the feed and the
newsgroups, and then entered the information I use for my ISP's news server.
Same problem, newsgroups & public folders were created, but no messages.

When I use this configuration in Outlook Express, I get plenty of messages.
Is there something more I have to do to get messages flowing? Are these
servers recognizing that this is an NNTP server (rather than an NNTP client)
attempting to access the server, and declining to send messages?

Thanks for your help!

Mike

Thanks Mark, that makes sense. I couldn't find any
information in your second link about newsfeeds. Are you
aware of any free feeds that I can access?

Thanks again,

Mike
