Hi everybody,

I am having a Word document that I cannot open receiving
the well know message from Word 2003.

Word was unable to read this document. It may be corrupt.
Try one or more of the following:
* Open and Repair the file.
* Open the file with the Text Recovery converter.
(C:\Documents and Settings\...\test.doc)

The Document form Microsoft, related on this Problem ,
dosn't helped. http://www.yqcomputer.com/

Any ideas why could be corrputed and how we be solved?

Thanks in advance.

P.S. The option open and repairs also didn't bring success

Hi Carlos,

I can't open the doc in Word 2003, either, but it opens fine in WordPad
(Start > All Programs... > Accessories).

If that isn't an option for some reason, you could open the document in Word
with the file type set to "Recover text from any file", but you'd need to
clean up the text and completely reformat it from scratch. Still beats
re-typing it ;-)

Regards,
Klaus

Interestingly I can open the file both in Word 2000 and Word 2003. It is,
however, corrupt, and appears to have lost a few bytes from the end
containing File Properties.

Try right clicking the file in Explorer and selecting Properties and then
explicitly changing maybe the Title. With luck this will cause the file to
be correctly (re)written. Alternatively, if you have access to a hex editor
try padding the file out with binary zeroes to a length of x'b232' - that is
add (decimal) 21 bytes on the end.

Word

,
solved?

This is actually the programming forum, and you might have better luck in the
general area of Word. However....

If you've exhausted all other avenues, you can try this: Open the document
in WordPad instead of Word (Start, Programs, Accessories, WordPad). You
might be able to salvage a good part of it. Most likely, there will be a
good deal of garbage. Delete the garbage and re-save the document (or, you
can just copy and paste it into a Word document).

If that doesn't work for you, then please try searching the regular forum
under Office and Desktop Applications, Word, General Questions.

Good luck.
