QinetiQ-NA is looking for a mid to senior level Java Software Developer to work on a project supporting the Customs and Border Protection Enterprise Network Program division. The candidate will support multiple web applications with new and maintenance development tasks in a team environment. The system meets a variety of customer requirements supporting multiple departments for accepting data input, managing workflow processes, interfacing with external systems, providing ad-hoc reporting, etc. The focus of this position will be on building business logic and data access components using Java, SQL and the Hibernate framework.

The candidate will work with a team of developers on new development projects, re-engineering legacy components, building enhancements and maintenance of existing components. The candidate will be responsible for the design and development of system modules in collusion with team members. The candidate must be comfortable working on all aspects of a project, interfacing with the customer directly to gather requirements, presenting demonstrations of work on a formal and informal basis, and providing technical leadership within the team. Experience with Struts is required and experience with Hibernate is a big plus.

The candidate must be able to contribute to an evolving development process, create UML diagrams to aid system design and test development work against requirements. Fully understanding business requirements, working with other developers and communicating concepts clearly to other developers and application stakeholders is required.

The technical environment is comprised of Java 5, Tomcat 5.5, dom4j, Oracle 9i, Toad, Windows Server, and Netbeans 5.5 IDE. JSP, Servlets, SQL, HTML, DHTML, JavaScript, XML, and XSLT are used extensively throughout the system. The Struts and Hibernate frameworks are used for new development projects and SQL is used throughout all modules. The development team encourages the use of new technologies and staying current with industry developments. Upcoming projects will present the possibility to explore Spring, JBoss, Web Services, EJB, and other technologies.

Special Requirements: A thorough background investigation conducted by the Department of Homeland Security is required. The investigation may take four months or longer to complete. The completion of this investigation is required before starting the new position and employment is contingent on successfully maintaining a security clearance. You will also be required to complete an assessment to gauge your current skill level with the Java programming language, understanding of web applications and development processes.
