Sponsored/Light/Paid statistics?

Qualcomm has posted a notice on their website that the new Eudora 6 Spam
Filter function will now only be available for Paid users. I wonder whether
anyone has any statistics about how many users are Sponsored / Light/ Paid
users? I am especially interested in the number of sponsored users, as I
have always been curious whether this was a viable approach for this type of
product.

In article < XXXX@XXXXX.COM >,

In general terms, we do. The answer is "only a minority of users
register at all". :-(

Ogden is exactly correct in that we don't have a good way of determining
the number of Paid mode users we have. We have a better handle on the
number of Sponsored and Light (4.3 & up, anyway) mode users we have.

As you might guess, the decision to make SpamWatch a Paid mode only
thing is intended to shift more of the user population from Sponsored to
Paid mode.

determining

I worded my query poorly, as I meant "current" paid subscribers as you now
are running a one year subscription policy. I meant that you must know how
many people are receiving the sponsored ads as the connections must be
audited and wanted to know the ratio between the various subscription forms
that result in revenue for Qualcomm.

You are correct, as this is what I had guessed and my question was aimed at
trying to find the reason for this.

I hope you're not under the impression that once a user's paid year
has passed, Eudora reverts to Sponsored Mode. It doesn't. It will
continue operating in paid mode, unless/until you download and install
an upgrade. Only then will your upgraded version start operating in
Sponsored Mode. You then have the choice of renewing your paid
subscription for a year to get a year's worth of upgrades and tech
support, changing to Lite Mode, or continuing in Sponsored Mode.

In article < XXXX@XXXXX.COM >,

The sponsored and light versions each contact our adserver from time to
time, and we can count them that way.
