Pegasus through a proxy server

Pegasus through a proxy server

Post by Murra » Wed, 29 Oct 2003 06:22:56

Hi all,
Can anyone help me with getting Pegasus email program working through
a proxy?? I have just installed a home proxy server, using
analogx.com 's program (called proxy), which works great for all the
other internet programs (browsers, ftp, newsreaders) but I cannot for
the life of me work out how to run pegasus (and another spam filtering
program as well) running through the proxy. My machine with pegasus
on it is ip address of 192.168.0.10 and the proxy server's is
192.168.0.3. I have tried the instructions in the readme with analogx
file, and downloaded the socks program they suggested, and other socks
programs as well, and couldn't work out how to get them running.
Can someone give me a "dummies" guide to getting the socks programs
working with it, if that is what I need.
All help most appreciated.
Thanks,
-Murray

Pegasus through a proxy server

Murray:

I don't know of providing a Proxy for ports 25 and 110, but they are the POP3 and SMTP
ports.

Why do you need a Proxy service anyway ? Based upon your own statements, it won't obfuscate
your IP address. If you are discussing a LAN email setup using P-Mail I can see the Proxy
cache being handy, but no other reason to have a Proxy so -- why have a Proxy service ?

You do realize that program installs as an open proxy by default, don't you?
Probably half the open proxies on the internet are running analogx.
