Exporting Addressbooks

Exporting Addressbooks

Post by Den » Sat, 11 Oct 2003 05:58:11

I'm using v4.12 public beta of Pegasus. I want to use an addressbook in one
user account in another user account. The help files suggest the simplest
way is to export the addressbook then import it into the other user.
However, I can't find any menu item that let's me export or import the
addressbook. Have I missed something? Any better ideas?

[Why not use the official v4.12a ?]

Open the addressbook window
and a menu item "Addressbook" wil miraculously appear.

With the addressbook open, look on the main Pegasus menu bar for
"Addressbook." When you click on that, you'll see the import and
export options.

Really? I'd contest that.
It is much better to place the addressbook so it's accessible by both users
(as a system-wide addressbook).
Or, if the users do not access the same Pegasus directory, just move over
the addresbook files (addressbook proper and index file).

I found the information for exporting addressbooks but is the <tab> format
the same as CSV format? If not, how do I export the addressbook in CSV
format? I'm using version 4.4.

There are instructions for converting tab format to CSV format here
(I haven't tested them):

No, it's not. CSV stands for "Comma Separated Value". Text fields will
be enclosed in quote marks, and all fields will be separated by commas.
Pegasus can only do tab-delimited data files.

Most programs will accept imports from both comma- and tab-separated
data files, but if need be it's not that hard to convert them. One easy
way is to open the file with MS Excel and then export it in your
preferred format.

Thanks to both of you. I'll give both suggestions a try.
