Two questions about Redhat Fedora Core

Two questions about Redhat Fedora Core

Post by @STOPSPAMN » Sat, 31 Jul 2004 11:23:52

I am running RedHat Fedora Core 1 on my desktop. I have two questions:

1) When I run yum, sometimes, I get the following response:

[jeffr@black jeffr]$ sudo yum install kalarm
Password:
Gathering header information file(s) from server(s)
Server: Fedora Core 1 - i386 - Base
Damaged or Bad header.info from Fedora Core 1 - i386 - Base
This is probably because of a downed server or an invalid header.info on
a repository.
[jeffr@black jeffr]$

What is the proper recovery from this? Is the problem at my end or at
the server end? How do I diagnose this further?

2) Is there an upgrade procedure from RedHat Fedora Core 1 to Fedora
Core 2, and if so, what is it?

Many thanks,

Jeff

2. Strange SSH halting problem between Fedora Core 2/Fedora Core 3

<snip>

Hi Jon:

Something I noticed today while ssh'ing via another ssh'ed account is that
it doesn't really like multiple-forwarded X connections.

I'll elaborate:

I ssh into my home workstation from work. This connection has been setup to
forward X connections. But then when I try to ssh from the home workstation
to another machine on my home network, I get a timeout similar to what you
describe. The solution is to do the second ssh without forwarding X, ie, by
invoking "ssh -x <server>". I don't know whether this is your problem, but
might be something to look into.

Cheers,
