The new chipset is also more efficient for everyday tasks like checking your
e-mail and surfing the Web, Apple claims, extending the new MacBook's
battery life to a full 10 hours, or three hours more than last year's model.

When you give one to me it will be soon enough! :-p

I'd never buy an Apple laptop though. Not my cup of tea. Like most
GNU/Linux users I'm strangely attracted to the ThinkPad.

Yeah, perhaps. It also has 'the *** ' though, which is a real gem
for an awesome user. Much nicer than a touchpad imo (which it also has
of course).

Woohoo!!! Another ' *** ' lover!

Not only the ' *** ' but the keyboard on my Thinkpad is the best I've
ever used. Trouble is that my Thinkpad is now 5 years old... and not
getting any younger... and all the new ones are no longer IBM but
Lenovo.

Nope. Last year's model - at this year's highest price. Apple gets a
lot of money for those laptops - I guess it's because they are doing
something right. If it's not the hardware - you think it might have
something to do with that software?

Sure, when you're spending someone else's money on something for
yourself, you want the top of the Line - Apple Mac.

When you are spending your money on someone else, you want to get off
as cheap as possible, and you don't care about quality (Windows).

When you are spending your own money on yourself - you want as much
quality as possible at a price you can afford. You'll pay a little
extra if you have to, but only if you can really get that bang for the
buck.

I'm looking at that T510 with 8 gig of RAM and HD+ (1600x900p).

Though I would prefer it with FHD.

The old resolutions (XGA, WXGA, WSXGA, and WUXGA) are outdated.

The new resolutions HD (1300x780), HD+ (1600x900) and FHD (1900x1200)
are more interesting. And of course, they ALL let you plug into HDTVs
- many of which now sport 1900x1080p resolution.

But at least I know it will work with all of the major Linux
distributions.
