Ping Tomb: more OS-less stores in BE/NL

Here are two more stores, where you are able to buy desktop PC's and
laptops W/O pre-installed OS:

They provide many options for both desktops and laptops.

Laptops and servers with Ubuntu pre-installed or OS-less.

Mingos was co-founded by Catharina Bethlehem, also known as "Kletskous",
my favourite online geek chick ;-)

There are, and always have been, loads of them. Which is why its always
such a shock to hear people like TomB then moving the goalposts and
whining that he cant buy one in his local Dixons ....

Great. Thanks for the heads-up :-)

"Kletskous" rings a bell... Did she used to be on the be.comp.* groups
a lot?

On 2010-09-21, the following emerged from the brain of Hadron:

Oh yeah, two shops for two countries absolutely is 'loads of them'.

Blah, blah, blah.

Yes, I think it's a shame I cannot get an OS-less laptop in my 'local
Dixons'. Now what's your problem with *that*? Is there anything you
*don't* have a problem with?

Quite frankly, my experience with it leaves me thinking that Ubuntu is Swahili

Indeed and you have to order them online. It's not like most of us
prefer, going inside a random store (as close as possible to our home)
and just buy a desktop or laptop and take it home.

That's funny, I also complained that I can't get a non Microsoft Windows
Crapware pre-installed machine at my local Dixons. Because you simply
can't!!!

My latest laptop is a Acer Aspire 7220 from Dixons, with that POS
Windows Vista Home Basic (sort of) "pre-installed".

After 5 days and 3 re-installations of the Crapware, I popped in a
Mandriva CD-ROM and took the poor machine out of it's misery. It's
currently running Ultimate Edition 2.5 with Windows 7 Gnome theme :-p

Poor "Hadron" :-p

Verily I say unto thee, that TomB spake thusly:

You're lucky you even /have/ a Dixon's at all. The one in the UK (and
everywhere else outside the Netherlands) was shut down by it's parent
group DSG, after trying to sell Vista to reluctant Microsoft-victims.

[quote]
Dixons Stores Group International, which owns Dixons, Currys and PC
World, has told journalists that profits for the first half of 2007 will
be 20 million lower than expected. The company's Group Finance
Director, Kevin O'Byrne, blamed the news on the slow uptake of Windows
Vista products, explaining that the company had been forced to clear
stock by offering it at lower prices.

In a statement, the group's chairman, Sir John Collins, said that "The
reduction in laptop stocks that arose out of disappointing sales of
VISTA related products and a changing sales mix have reduced gross
margins by around 2% in the computing division, impacting Group profits
by around 20 million in the first half.
