Review: Foresight Linux 1.0

,----[ Quote ]
| Installation of Foresight Linux was a snap. Under VMware Fusion
| Beta on my MacBook Pro and on my Athlon 64 x2 system with GeForce
| 7800GT the installation was flawless. The graphical installer
| popped up cleanly on both and easily walked me through the
| installation process with minimal questions.

It could become a strong contender one day. It's a new distribution that uses
rPath's Conary system.

Foresight Linux: Two out of three's not bad

,----[ Quote ]
| By any standard, Foresight Linux is a well-designed, throughly modern
| distribution that takes full advantage of GNOME's steady improvements in
| usability and customization over the last few years. It is also the leading
| example of a distro that uses the Conary package system, whose ideas and
| structure are overdue for inclusion in both the Debian and RPM systems.
|
| However, once you venture outside daily use, in some ways Foresight is less
| user-friendly than many leading distributions.

Foresight Linux Review

| GIMP is installed, but it not added into the Graphics menu. I wonder if
| itl be there if I reboot? I did run it from the command line and that
| worked. This is soemthing they definitely need to fix if they want to be the
| easy to use distro. After I rebooted, it was in the menu.
|
| Overall, the distro does a very nice job of picking a small amount of
| programs to have installed as the default. It weird that they didn have
| The GIMP installed by default, but no biggie there. It IS bad that it wasn
| in the menu as soon as being installed. It nice to be able to upgrade to
| the latest Gnome without having to install a whole new version of the distro.
| I don see anything special about it make it appeal to new users that
| doesn also apply to Ubuntu or any of these others. Il keep an eye on
| Foresight in the future, but nothing necessarily pulls me to it right now.

Review : Cherry Picks of the Month: Foresight Linux

,----[ Quote ]
| I just cannot believe that it has been a month to the day that I proudly
| signed off on the Cherry Pick of the Month for the second issue of GeekDeck!
| A whole lot has happened since then and I literally did not have a chance to
| get a lot of writing done. As if keeping up and committing translations for
| the GNOME, Xfce and LXDE projects wasn enough, I embarked on a 2-week-long
| roller coaster of a ride at work that just ended this afternoon! Have I
| mentioned that I am also running for the GNOME Board of Directors? My last
| adventures took me to a very familiar road, this time in my own backyard so
| to speak, as I was elected into the Foresight Linux Council and became their
| Community Manager.
