rpm -i xxx.rpm --> /usr/lib/libz.s0.1 is not a symbolic link

I believe this is the 2nd time in recent days that I've received this
message after installing a rpm.

I'm being told that the rpm was installed. But now I'm having problems
and believe I need to resolve this message I get after a rpm instal-
lation.

Most recent event occurred when installing rpm -iv
wine-20040309-1rh9winehq.i386.rpm.

After the installation completes I get a message saying:
/sbin/ldconfig: /usr/lib/libz.s0.1 is not a symbolic link.

Not know for sure what is behind this I did try the ldconfig options:
/sbin/ldconfig -v also /sbin/ldconfig -n /usr/lib

/sbin/ldconfig -n /usr/lib produces the same message: /sbin/ldconfig:
/usr/lib/libz.so.1 is not a symbolic link

The contents of my /etc/ld.so.conf is :
/usr/kerberos/lib
/usr/X11R6/lib
/usr/lib/qt-3.1/lib
/usr/lib/wine

I gather in what I've read that ldconf references the ld.so.conf but
I'm not totally understand the process here.

I have this feeling that any installs I try with rpm are going to
generate this message.

What does 'ls -l /usr/lib/libz* show ... exactly. The
reason I say exactly is that you spell the error message two
ways, one with a zero in 'so', and once correctly with the
letter 'o'. Is the link misspelled?
