Can i use Red Hat 6.0 book for learning Red Hat 9.0?

Hi,
I am starting to learn RH 9.0 Server. A friend of mine gave me an old
RH 6.0 Server book to use for my studies. Can i use this book or will
it take me the wrong direction? Are there big enough differences in
the two versions that i need to buy another RH 9.0 book? Some people
have been telling me that the only differences between earlier
versions of RH have been that it was not as friendly or compatible as
it is now. Any comments? Thanks.

The firewall software has been through at least one major iteration,
possibly two (iptables was ipchains, which was ipfwadm). That's just
one example out of probably a whole bunch.

The book will give you *some* idea of where you're going, but serious
study merits updated resources (whether that means books, web searches,
user group, whatever).

yes, the differences are significant (see other the other comment).
an alternative: look for pdf's and doc's on the subject you would like
to read.

like:
http://www.yqcomputer.com/ +hat+9+filetype%3Apdf&hl=nl&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8
or
http://www.yqcomputer.com/ +hat+9+filetype%3Adoc&lr=

You can extend the search with the subject which you would like to
study.

Excellent books on Red Hat, like;
"Linux Unleashed" from SAMS publising
It is not a popular-science approach but tougfh stuff, with examples.
Available at...

or at any shop of your choice...

I thought I saw a RH 9 Admin Guide PDF on the RH site. Try
looking there as well.
