I've been trying to install RH Linux 7.3 on an older machine so that I
could use it as a web server instead of it sitting idle.
During the first several attempts, installation would get started, but
then it'd just hang trying to install different packages.
I pulled out a network card I had in the machine (a DLink), and then
the installation went fine. When I boot, I get the Gnome desktop,
I powered the machine down, and plugged the DLink NIC back in and
powered the machine on. Linux found the new card, and brought up
Kudzu, etc., and then the network was working.
However, if I boot after that, Linux no longer boots into the
graphical/Gnome UI. I simply get a text prompt for a login to
"dhcpp3" or something like that.
I can login as root.
Why is Linux reverting to a text-only login after I install the
And, how to I re-enable the graphical UI again?
