centralized CRON

Instead of a cron meta-server, how about making a cron
meta-file? You edit one file, run a script (Perl would be
good for this) that reads this master file and creates
several slave files (one per machine). Then, use some
appropriate mechanism to distribute the slave files to the
various machines and run 'crontab' on them.

Good luck.

if all computers are on the same LAN, then perhaps you can get one
computer to tell another what to do. Then you only need 1 cron file.
