Does anyone else get a single quote on the command line?

Every once in a while I get a ' when I try to start typing. And, no,
I don't think it's me. I was wondering if anyone else gets this
problem.

I had this under Mandrake 7 and I'm getting it with the latest Red Hat
as well.

I have not seen this on any of my RH boxes. Which command shell are you
using? Have you ever spilled sticky liquid on your keyboard (e.g.,
coffee, soda, juice, beer, drool, etc.)? What, exactly, do you mean when
you say, "when I try to start typing" (give an example)? Does the
apostrophe (single quote) character appear only when you press certain
keys or when you press any key?

This wouldn't by chance be on a serial (RS-232) terminal,
would it? At one time, I had problems with the serial
terminal driver losing characters out of the queue when a
different process opened the tty. (Everyone thought it was
a Perl bug, but it turned out to be a driver bug.)

Good luck.
