Please help on simple network connectivity

Hi All,

I have connected two computers connected using cross-over cable & both
running on Mandrake9.2. I assigned 192.168.1.1 & 192.168.1.2 to each of
them.
When they ping the each other, something like 75% packets were dropped.

Could some network professionals tell me how to fix it ?

Thanks in advance.
Keith

did you make the cross-over by yourself? if many of the packets are
dropped you might have damaged it or something like that

are you able to try it with an other cross over or two normal cables an
a switch?

Actually, I have tried the cross-over on other computers (windows), and it
works.
I think I need to borrow a switch & try again.

Thanks
