It is my 2 cents worth that both Operating systems are about the same
as operating systems go. I know this may be heresy to some people and
I know there going to be a list of disadvantages and advantages posted
regarding each operating system.

But where Linux blows away Microsoft is the GNU tools that are
available to linux many of them are being ported to windows but still
not enough. I would like to see the Operating system opened up for
peer review. It would encourage a community to develop better tools
for the Microsoft platform. Microsoft will lose out in the operating
system market if it does not embrace the open source model.

Can you imagine a Microsoft operating system with all the shell tools
availble in a usally linux distrubution. Also can you imagine a linux
desktop with all the gui tools available to a Microsoft Operating
system.

Have you heard of WSH (it doesn't stand for Windows Shell) and WMI ?
You can do some pretty powerful shell scripting with this stuff without
any external .exe tools.

MS has Services For Unix.

And why buy the cow when the milk is given away. Windows code is MS cash
cow. MS and Apple show the potency of commercial software develop and
develop better and more quickly than linux in my opinion.
